If you’re fair of complexion, you may be used to people telling you how pale you look, and asking if you’re anaemic. Here’s your reply for next time – stick your tongue out.
Pale tongues are better predictors of anaemia than pale cheeks, fingernails, palms or inner eyelids, according to a study from an Indian hospital. People with healthy pink tongues are very unlikely to have severe anaemia, while half of those with very pale tongues did. A finding that could be life-saving in a resource-poor country.
